The 18-year-old is hoping to follow in the footstep of not just her dad, who will forever be known as The Rock, thanks to his time in the wrestling world, but also her grandfather and great-grandfather too.
Simone is the newest trainee to join the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida and proudly wearing her new tee, the teen posted on Instagram: ‘To the little girl who fell in love with wrestling & said “this will be my life one day”, this is for you.
I’m humbled, grateful & ready to work. Let’s do this. wwe wwenxt.’ Go get ’em girl.
Digital Spy reports that in an interview with WWE, Simone revealed just how much it means to her to be wrestling.
‘It means the world to me,’ she said. ‘To know that my family has such a personal connection to wrestling is really special to me and I feel grateful to have the opportunity, not only to wrestle, but to carry on that legacy.’
Matt Bloom – who has become head trainer at the PC in Orlando following his own in-ring retirement – insisted the future star won’t be resting ‘on her laurels’ when it comes to joining the family business.
Matt added: ‘Simone knows she has a lot to learn. She’s hungry to learn and picks the coaches’ minds, and the veteran Superstars’, as well. She’s not going to rest on her laurels. It’s been a short time, but she’s been crushing it.’
Paul “Triple H” Levesque – Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative – insisted Simone has ‘earned’ her spot at WWE’s developmental facility. He commented: ‘Simone Johnson’s unbridled passion and incredible drive has earned her a coveted spot training with the elite athletes from around the world at the WWE Performance Center.
‘Not only does Simone now have an opportunity to cultivate and display her passion for WWE within the Performance Center, but she’ll carry on the tradition of her incredible family lineage while creating her own impact as WWE’s first fourth generation Superstar.’ Simone’s grandfather and Dwayne’s dad, Rocky Johnson, was a pretty big deal in the WWE universe and Dwayne was seen praising his dad for being something of trailblazer.
He shared a sweet eulogy, following Rocky’s end last month. The WWE pioneer – known as Soul Man – lost of a heartattack on 15 January, aged, 75. Visibly emotional, The Rock began: ‘I wish I had one more snap. Just to say goodbye, say I love you, say thank you, say I respect you. I have a feeling he’s watching, he’s listening.’ He penned a moving message alongside the heartbreaking clip, that read: ‘Dad, you lived a full and meaningful life.
You trail blazed and even harder, you changed people’s harsh behaviours toward a man of colour. ‘Paving the way for me, my family and generations to come. You loved us with the capacity of which you could – given all the givens. Raised me with an iron hand and a tough complicated love. ‘A love that now, as a father and man, I’ve learned to refine as I raise my own children.
I wish I had one more snap. To say one more thing. You were taken too fast. Slipped right thru my hands (sic).’ He concluded the post: ‘But you were so loved, lived so full, defined culture and now you rest high. Peacefully. And that makes my heart smile. I love you and now I have an angel to call by name. ‘I’ll see you down the road, Soulman. Til we meet again. Your son (sic).’
